Summary of Volleyball Advisory Committee - November 14, 2013

 

           

Recommend amending MSHSAA By-Law 3.25.1d to state that a player may participate in a maximum of 4 sets per calendar date to be used at any level (freshman, jv or varsity) and using this information to calculate the player season limitations.

 

Recommend the following state association adoption under Rule 5-1-1 regarding the procedure to use when securing line judges for volleyball matches.  “Each school shall be responsible for providing one line judge to officiate all levels of volleyball matches.  Schools are encouraged to use adults in these positions whenever possible.”

 

Recommend the volleyball preseason interschool scrimmage be held no earlier than Friday            of week 6 on the standardized calendar through Thursday of week 7 on the standardized calendar. 

 

Recommend that in a three team preseason interschool scrimmage format to increase the points allowed from 19 to 21 and in a four team format to increase the points allowed from 13 to 15 points.

 

Recommended surveying all volleyball coaches to determine in non-varsity level duals to modify the third set to 15 points rather than 25 points.

 

Recommend surveying the volleyball coaches regarding proposed language eliminating ball-handling drills during the 6 minutes when the team is not on the court during the pre-match warm-ups.  “When one team has exclusive use of the court, the other team must either be at its team bench or out of the playing area. Warming up with balls at the team bench or the spectator walkways is not permitted.
