Oct. 25, 2005 Meeting Summary

Held October 25, 2005

1. Recommend that the dates for the 2006-2007 rules meetings be scheduled on weeks six and seven of the standardized calendar to avoid game conflicts and to have rules meeting completed before competition begins.

***    2. Recommend that the “Team District Round” be renamed to “Sectional Quarterfinals.”

Amend: Recommend that the “Team District Round” be renamed to “Team Regionals.” In the past the term Regionals has been used to distinguish a round of competition which occurs between Districts and Sectionals, and includes more than 16 teams.

3. Recommend that schools have flexibility in the dates in which they can schedule the Team Districts (Team Regionals). The Tennis Manual would read: “…shall advance to the Team District Round (Team Regionals) to be held no earlier than Monday of week 15 and shall conclude no later than Wednesday of week 15 using the criteria listed below.”

***    4. Recommend that the State Tournament and Team Sectionals would alternate between classes the playing of doubles and singles matches beginning the 2006-07 school year. This tournament format would allow optimal use of the playing facilities and guarantee greater individual student participation in the state tournament Series.

Amend: Recommend that an item be placed on the Annual Questionnaire to determine if schools registered in tennis would favor an alternating state series schedule for Team Tennis in regard to starting with the singles play (six singles matches) or the doubles play (three doubles matches).
