MSHSAA Recognizes Stefanie West with the Mal Mayse Distinguished Service Award

Stefanie West was presented with the Mal Mayse Distinguished Service Award during the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships, recognizing more than three decades of service and leadership in sports medicine and a lasting commitment to student-athlete safety in Missouri.

The Mal Mayse Distinguished Service Award honors individuals whose dedication and service have made a meaningful impact on interscholastic athletics across the state. West’s career reflects exceptional leadership in secondary school athletics, clinical care and sports medicine program development.

West has more than 30 years of experience in athletic training and sports medicine and currently serves as Director of Marketing and Director of Sports Medicine for Peak Sport and Spine, where she oversees sports medicine outreach, physician relations, continuing education and community engagement across more than 30 clinics. She played a foundational role in developing sports medicine outreach services throughout Missouri and served as Head Athletic Trainer at Hickman High School from 2005 to 2020, where she also taught sports medicine courses and mentored future athletic trainers through collegiate clinical education programs.

West’s involvement with MSHSAA spans many years and numerous roles. She has served on the MSHSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee since 2018 and was the Sports Medicine Coordinator for the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships from 2005 through 2023, providing leadership and oversight for medical care at one of the association’s most demanding championship events.

In addition to her work with MSHSAA, West has been an active leader in the Missouri Athletic Trainers’ Association and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, serving in leadership roles and presenting statewide on concussion management, heat illness prevention and emergency care protocols.

Her contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including induction into the MOATA Hall of Fame and multiple professional and educational awards reflecting her commitment to excellence and mentorship.
