2025 Bulldog Fall Fiesta
details
BFF will consist of a minimum of eight games for all teams in the standard 20/20 match format: Each game shall consist of two halves of ten tossups each, with each correct tossup followed by a three-part bonus. There are no math computation questions. Correct tossup answers are ten points each. Tossups are power-marked, and correct responses given before the mark will receive an additional five points. We will not assess a five-point penalty for interrupting the moderator during the tossup with an incorrect answer. All tossups and bonus parts receive five seconds. The moderator will prompt the captain on the bonus after four seconds. In the novice division, each incorrect bonus part will immediately rebound, with the rebounding team expected to provide an answer within three seconds. Bonus parts will not rebound in the varsity division. Unless otherwise specified in a bonus set, each bonus part shall be ten points each. In the event a game is tied after regulation, additional tossups shall be read until the next change in score. Each team shall have one 30 second timeout per match. Substitutions, scorechecks, and team conferences may occur at the half, prior to overtime, or during any timeout called by either team. Teams must use their timeout to request a scorecheck other than at halftime or the end of regulation. Team rosters shall be limited to seven players; schools are encouraged to bring multiple teams to compete. Teams may play with fewer than four players, but should have at least two players. Rosters shall be submitted in advance and finalized at registration the morning of the tournament. Players may not change teams during the tournament.
We will offer a varsity and novice division, with separate question sets. The Varsity division will use SHOW-ME 4. The Novice division will use David Reinstein's IESA. Should you register for BFF, you agree to not attend any other tournament using either of these sets; conversely, if you are registered for or have already attended an event that uses either of these sets, you may not be allowed to compete at BFF.
We are currently limiting each division to 18 teams; this may be adjusted depending on staff availability. Additional teams will be placed on a waitlist and contacted should an opening occur.
We anticipate the varsity division serving as a qualifier for the 2026 PACE National Scholastic Championship in Chicago. The novice division will not serve as a qualifying division for national bids, as the following roster restrictions are in place: All freshmen are eligible to compete in the novice division. All sophomores are eligible to compete in the novice division, with the exception of players who averaged at least 20 points per game at HSNCT, SSNCT, or NSC. Juniors and seniors may compete in the novice division if they have not competed at a quiz bowl contest at the high school level prior to October 1st, 2024.
Teams will play five morning rounds, break for lunch, then return for at least three afternoon games. This setup is subject to change, depending on the number of teams signed up. We plan to start the team meeting at 8:30 a.m., with the first round set for 8:50 a.m. and afternoon rounds slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. With the exception of any playoff games for trophies, we anticipate the last game ending around 4 p.m.
Fee structure is as follows, per school: Each team: $70 Discount for travelling more than 100 miles each way (determined by Google Maps): $10 Discount for providing a working buzzer set: $5 Discount for providing a competent scorekeeper: $10 Discount for providing a competent moderator: $20 Discounts may be multiplied but may not exceed $35 per team. All discounts and staffing offers are subject to the discretion of tournament officials. Staff will need an active Google Drive account in order to access our scoresheets and question packets.
Mexico High School is located at 639 N Wade Street, in the northwestern part of the city.
The tournament is under the direction of Mexico High School Coach Dale Schenewerk and veteran scholar bowl moderator Kyle Hill of the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance, an organization dedicated to promoting quality scholar bowl tournaments around the state. We anticipate receiving certification and assistance from their membership. Participants will be expected to abide by the Honor Pledge and Section I (Ethics and Conduct) promulgated by the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence (PACE).

Orchard Farm Novice Invitational
details
Hello all,
I am pleased to announce that Orchard Farm High School will be hosting a novice scholar bowl tournament Saturday, November 22. We will be using a NAQT question set, MS-55; we plan on providing a 5 game prelim and 3 game final.
There are no definite restrictions for who is considered a novice for the purposes of this tournament; HOWEVER, please use your best judgment as to who in your program would benefit from playing a tournament of this difficulty. Seniors who are in their first year of competition and are hesitant to buzz in practice or tournaments are fine; Same for Juniors;sophomores (or even freshmen!) who consistently win scoring medals in varsity tournaments should probably be left off the roster for this tournament. I am trying to provide a tournament to encourage new students and grow the sport, not to have a team or individual blow another team out of the water because they have a really good individual or individuals. Save that for a regular tournament please.
The entry fee for this tournament will be $60 for the 1st team, $50 for every team after that with a discount for buzzers and moderators.
Register on NAQT : https://www.naqt.com/registration/regis ... &type=TEAM
We hope to see you on November 22!!

2026 BRIC
details
The members of Mexico High School Scholar Bowl welcome your team to join others from across the region at the tenth Bulldog Regional Interscholastic Challenge (BRIC), scheduled for March 28th, 2026.
BRIC will offer a standard division and a nationals division. Both divisions will consist of a minimum of eight games (and most likely nine) for all teams in a modified NAQT/national format: Each game shall consist of two halves of ten tossups each, with each correct tossup followed by a three-part bonus. All tossups are five seconds, and there is no math computation. Correct tossup answers are ten points each, with an additional ten points awarded if the correct answer is given before a pre-determined point in the tossup. The nationals division will assess a five-point penalty for interrupting the moderator during the tossup with an incorrect answer. The standard division will not assess incorrect interrupt penalties. The team that receives the bonus will have five seconds to answer each part. The moderator will prompt after four seconds. Bonus parts will not rebound in either division. Unless otherwise specified in a bonus set, each bonus part shall be ten points each. In the event a game is tied after regulation, additional tossups shall be read until the next change in score. Both divisions will use full tossup scoring, including negs in the pre-nationals division. Each team shall have one 30 second timeout per match. Substitutions, scorechecks, and team conferences may occur at the half, prior to overtime, or during any timeout called by either team. Per MSHSAA rules, teams must use a timeout to request a scorecheck other than at halftime or the end of regulation. Teams rosters shall be limited to seven players; schools are encouraged to bring junior varsity and “B” teams to compete. Teams may play with fewer than four players but should have at least two players. Rosters shall be submitted in advance and finalized at registration the morning of the tournament. Players may not change teams during the tournament. We have secured the CREEK II set for the nationals division, written by alums of the Beavercreek (OH) High School quiz bowl team. More information is available at https://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29011. As of January 27th, no other mirrors have been announced. You will not be able to compete in this division at BRIC if you attend another event using this set.
For the standard division, we are using IQBT Regular Set #8. More information is available at https://hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29546. As of January 27th, tournaments hosted by Nevada (MO) and Virginia Commonwealth University are also using IQBT #8. You will not be able to compete in this division at BRIC if you attended another event using this set.
Because we are intending the nationals division to be a tune-up for nationals, teams who are already registered for a national tournament (namely SSNCT, HSNCT, or PACE NSC) and wish to field a team in the standard division will be expected to have a team in the nationals division. We are open to considering exceptions if discussed in advance. Initially, we will limit the field to 12 teams in the nationals division and 18 in the standard division; these numbers may shift and expand, depending on interest and staff availability. Additional teams will be placed on a waitlist and contacted should an opening occur.
Teams will play five morning rounds, break for lunch, then return for at least four afternoon games. This setup is subject to change, depending on the number of teams signed up. We plan to start the team meeting at 8:30 a.m., with the first round set for 8:50 a.m. and afternoon rounds slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. With the exception of any playoff games for trophies, we anticipate the last game ending around 4:30 p.m.
Fee structure is as follows, per school: Each team: $80 Discount for travelling more than 100 miles each way (determined by Google Maps): $10 Discount for providing a working buzzer set: $5 Discount for providing a competent scorekeeper: $10 Discount for providing a competent moderator: $20 Discounts may be multiplied; however, there is a minimum fee of $40 per team. All discounts are subject to the discretion of tournament officials.
BRIC will again take place at Mexico Middle School, located at 1200 W Boulevard Street. We are hopeful to again offer a lunch service in the cafeteria. If you wish to venture off campus for lunch, most options will be along Route 22 and in the downtown area. If we are able to secure an on-campus lunch option, we will not plan to have lunch run more than an hour.
The tournament is under the direction of Mexico High School Coach Dale Schenewerk, with assistance from members of the Missouri Quizbowl Alliance, an organization dedicated to promoting quality scholar bowl tournaments around the state.
To register for this tournament, please visit http://tinyurl.com/2026MexicoBRIC. Questions concerning the tournament may be directed to Dale Schenewerk at dschenewerk@mexico.k12.mo.us. Please include “2026 BRIC” in the subject line.
We look forward to seeing you at Mexico Middle School on March 28th!
