"5-Star Leadership Schools" – 2010-11 Inaugural Class

 School year 2010-11 was the first year of the 5-Star Leadership School Banner Program.  This program is a joint venture of MSHSAA, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Champions of Character Program and Musco Sports Lighting, LLC.  This program provides the opportunity for MSHSAA member schools to become 5-Star Leadership Schools, and earn a championship banner to hang in the gymnasium and a digital banner to post on the school website.  This program expanded MSHSAA’s long-standing “Leadership School Program” to encourage schools to become even more active in regard to sportsmanship, character education, and citizenship.  There are FIVE requirements to win the award annually.  These are summarized below, but each has specific requirements:

          1.  Attend MSHSAA Sportsmanship Summit
          2.  Qualify as a MSHSAA Leadership School
          3.  Head Coaches of all activities complete NAIA Online Training
          4.  Attendance at MIAAA Spring Conference
          5.  Train parents, participants and coaches using the Champions of Character DVD

Twenty-five (25) MSHSAA junior and senior high schools qualified to be recognized as  5-Star Leadership Schools for the 2010-11 school year and received a personalized 5-Star Leadership School banner.  Congratulations to all of the 5-Star Leadership Schools for their commitment to sportsmanship, leadership and character in interscholastic activities!
