2011 Wrestling Advisory Committee

March 7, 2011

1.  Recommend to pilot the NWCA Option 4 automated seeding system by one volunteer district per class to get a 3 year sample as a base line comparison to consider for future state implementation.

**2.  Recommend using only Doctor/Clinic stamp, with doctor’s letterhead, prescription note or business card with skin condition release form before a wrestler is able to participate in a match.

Amended:  Recommend adding a doctors/clinic stamp on skin condition release form as an acceptable form of documentation before a wrestler is able to participate in a match.

Tabled:  To go to Sports Medicine Advisory committee for discussion.  Concerns of photocopying blank skin forms with the stamp already present due to past experiences of this occurring.

3.  Recommend the NWCA Weigh-in form be used but the old MSHSAA weigh-in form can be used only if the Alpha Master Report is attached.

4.  Recommend to allow one vote per school in attendance at seeding meeting for all seeds going to a coach’s vote.

5.  Recommend to switch Criteria #2 and Criteria #3 on page 28 of the Wrestling Manual for seeding purposes at district wrestling.

Current Criteria #2: Returning District: A returning district champion or runner-up in the same or adjacent weight class.

Current Criteria #3: Returning State:  A returning state champion or state place finisher in any weight class.

6.  Recommend to use random draw feature in the district wrestling software for placement of unseeded wrestlers.

7. Recommend to allow District weigh-ins to begin no earlier than 4:00 p.m. and the wrestling may begin no earlier than 5:00 p.m. but no later than 6:00 p.m. as determined by the district tournament committee.

***8. Recommend to survey member wrestling schools to decide to move the 2 pound growth allowance from Feb. 1 to January 15 with the exception of a wrestler’s first weigh-in and recorded result of the season coming after the certification date, by which scratch weight at the first weigh-in would still permit certification.

Amended:  The 2 lb. growth allowance date will occur on January 15, in return moving the certification date for establishing a minimum wrestling weight to January 14.  Exception:  A wrestler who has not been medically released due to injury or an ineligible wrestler gaining eligibility must first complete the weight management assessment by a MSHSAA approved Assessor.  The weight class in which the wrestler officially weighs in at for the first time, making scratch weight, on or after January 15 will be considered his/her minimum wrestling weight. All wrestlers qualifying for the exception are required to meet the first weigh-in requirement on or before the Saturday of Week 31 of the Standardized Calendar(February 5, 2012).
