June 2007 Meeting Summary

Held June 7, 2007

***    1. Recommend that the current district championship game (one game) be expanded to a two-out-of-three series. Game 3 (if necessary) shall be played as the second game of a doubleheader on the same day as Game 2.

expanded to a two-out-of-three series. Game 3 (if necessary) shall be played as the second game of a doubleheader on the same day as Game 2. This recommendation is to be taken to the 2008 Area Meetings as an item for discussion.

2. Recommend that a district tournament start date be established as mandatory (weather permitting) as the Saturday of Week 45. Also that district tournaments may start earlier to allow for school-related conflicts if approved by all schools in the district tournament. (Currently there is no beginning date for the district tournament only an ending date.)

3. Recommend that the following schedule for Sectional and Quarterfinal games be changed as follows:

- Class 1 & 2 Sectionals – Monday of Week 47 (currently Wednesday)

- Class 3 & 4 Sectionals – Tuesday of Week 47 (currently Thursday)

- Class 1 & 2 Quarterfinals – Wednesday of Week 47 (currently Friday)

- Class 3 & 4 Quarterfinals – Thursday of Week 47 (currently Saturday)

***    4. Recommend that beginning with the 2008-09 classification cycle that baseball classes be divided equally instead of the modified method currently used.

5. Recommend that the MSHSAA staff have a discussion with the University of Missouri-Columbia Athletic Department regarding the future of the MSHSAA Baseball Championships on their campus and investigate other potential sites if necessary.

6. Recommend that the procedure for contracting umpires for sectional and quarter-final games be clearly outlined in the MSHSAA Baseball Manual.
