Summary of MSHSAA Baseball Advisory Committee

Held June 5, 2008

 

**                                                  1.   Recommend that beginning with the 2010-2011 school year for a two-year experiment that Class 4 be divided into 32 districts and that the district tournaments be double elimination, then four district winners play in eight regionals with double elimination, then four super-regionals with two teams each play a best two-out-three series, then four teams advance to the finals with single elimination.

 

                                                      The dates for the state tournament levels would be as follows:

 

                                                      Districts – Thursday-Tuesday Week #45-#46

                                                      Regionals – Thursday-Tuesday Week #46-#47

                                                      Super-regionals – Thursday-Saturday Week #47

                                                      Finals – Friday-Saturday Week #48

 

                                                      It is recommended that this item be taken to the 2008-2009 area meetings as an item for discussion

 

**                                                  2.   Recommend that MSHSAA By-Law 326 a1 and c1 be amended to increase the number of allowable contests by two games in each of the three options:  22 games (now 20) and 1 tournament, 20 games (now 18) and 2 tournaments, or 16 games (now 14) and 3 tournaments, be taken to the 2008-2009 area meetings as an item for discussion.

 

                                                      3.   Recommend that the MSHSAA follow the lead of the National Federation regarding the use of metal baseball bats in interscholastic competition.

***                                                Amend:  Recommend that the MSHSAA continue to follow the NFHS Baseball Rules Book regarding the use of metal and/or wood bats in interscholastic competition.
