Cross Country Advisory Committee

Held November 17, 2011

1.      Recommend that the use of feathers in the hair by cross country athletes be considered an adornment, thus being considered illegal.

2.      Recommend that the 11:00 a.m. start time for schools more than 100 miles away from a cross country district meet be moved back to 10:00 a.m.

3.      Recommend that any alternative race at a cross country meet be called a “Junior Varsity” race to do away with any confusion on who can or cannot run in that race.

4.      Recommend that the wording of the MSHSAA Cross Country Manual be changed to “If a school qualifies five individuals to the state championships but they do not qualify as a team, the school has the option of bringing two other runners and will have all of the privileges of a team at the next level.”

Staff Note:  Only qualified athletes will advance during the state series.  If five athletes should advance, they can score as a team at the next level.  They are not allowed the privileges given to a qualified team.
