June 3, 2010 Meeting Summary
TRACK AND FIELD ADVISORY COMMITTEE, held June 3, 2010
*1. Recommend that all four races of the 3200 meter run at the State Track and Field Championships be scheduled on Friday, and all four races of the 1600 meter run on Saturday, beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
2. Recommend that a subcommittee be formed to research a procedure which includes automatic standards for state championships.
3. Recommend that the 800 meter run be conducted at the district meets in sections of 16 participants on an 8-lane track and sections of 12 participants on a 6-lane track, with the top seeded entries being assigned to the last section and with the one-turn box alley starting method being utilized beginning with the 2011 season. The seeding assignment shall be:

*4. Recommend that an item be placed on the Annual Questionnaire to determine if schools registered for senior high track and field favor adding the 1600 meter medley relay (200 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters) as an official MSHSAA event beginning with the 2012 track season, with the relay being conducted as the first event of a meet and in lanes for the first four turns.
5. Recommend that a rule change proposal be written to include socks as part of the NFHS undergarment rule (4-3-1d).
6. Recommend that the 3-meter step-up starting procedure be made a point of emphasis in the 2011 MSHSAA Track and Field rules review.
7. Recommend that meet management records every performance at the district meets, unless there is an unusual, unavoidable circumstance, beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
8. Recommend that proof of performances be required as part of the online district entry procedure, beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
9. Recommend that updates be allowed in a school’s district meet entries (additions, scratches, and automatic qualifiers) prior to 4:00 p.m. on the Wednesday of the district meet, provided the school has met the initial entry deadline of 4:00 p.m. on the Monday of the district meet, beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
10. Recommend that the sectional meets be seeded with the district winners in lanes 4 and 5 and the remaining six qualifiers circle-seeded based on their times beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
11. Recommend that the preliminaries of the state championships be seeded with the sectional winners in lanes 4 and 5 and the remaining 12 qualifiers circle-seeded based on their times beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
