2015 SOFTBALL ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS

Board Action

1. Recommend the following addition to Section 4-B of the softball manual:  A Sectional Game, held at a facility without lights, may begin as early as 2:00 pm, with prior approval of both participating schools’ administrators and the MSHSAA office.

Rationale: This would hopefully eliminate the situation we had this fall.  A sectional contest went into extra innings and was suspended due to darkness.  The game was resumed the next day, forcing the visiting team to get kids out of school, absorb the expense of another bus trip, along with fans having to make an extra trip and officials being paid for additional mileage.

            2. Recommend the following addition to Section 1-D of the Softball Manual:  The director/host, of a regular season tournament, may elect to institute a 1:15 time limit game-ending procedure.  (No new inning begins after 1:15)

Rationale:  - the desire of many tournament directors to limit games in order conduct the tournament in one day, without playing games late into the night

                     - the wear and tear on the pitcher’s arm would decrease (schools with only 1 pitcher)

**        3. Recommend to institute an observers program for softball officials.

Rationale: The desire to provide softball officials a process for evaluation and feedback, as a means of improving overall performance.   (No action needed at this time.  Once a budget is estimated and it is reviewed by the Officials Advisory Committee, it may return to the Board for further discussion.)
