Scholar Bowl Advisory Committee - Meeting Summary

Held May 19, 2014

1.    Recommended that the Board of Directors make no changes to the current Missouri Scholar Bowl format based on the results of the 2013-14 Scholar Bowl Game Format Survey. 

2.    Recommended to modify the sub-categories of the miscellaneous category by removing “driver’s education” and combining the sub-category of “sports” with the sub-category of health/physical fitness. 

3.    Recommended that the Board of Directors offer a contract to NAQT for tournament question writing services for Districts and the State Series for an additional two years. 

4.    Recommended that the Board of Directors provide an exemption for NAQT that would allow the organization to host a tournament within the borders of Missouri and invite Missouri schools (Missouri schools would represent a minority of attendees), without being required to alter their tournament rules and style (i.e. timing rules, breaks, etc.) due to the multi-state format of their rules and procedures. 

***5.    Recommended the staff investigate possible avenues to secure neutral spotters (8) for the State Tournament, and if feasible, add this position to the panel of officials in each room.
