Summary of Sports Medicine Advisory Committee
Held January 6, 2011
1. Recommend that “by an appropriate emergency agency” be added to the end of paragraph 3-B(i)on Page 26 of the Sports Medicine Manual.
2. Recommend that coaches and athletic administration be required to take and pass the NFHS/MSHSAA course on concussions (Concussion in Sports: What You Need to Know) on an annual basis.
3. Recommend that a subcommittee be formed to review the editorial content of the MSHSAA Sports Medicine Manual and provide guidance for updates.
4. Recommend that “neuropsychologists” be added to the list of approved people who can give written clearance for a head injury as stated on Page 26, 6-C in the MSHSAA Sports Medicine Manual.
5. Recommend that on day two and day three of the Wrestling Championships, skin checks will be performed by a medical doctor or a licensed athletic trainer at the weigh in. MSHSAA to recommend that all wrestlers shower after every match.
**6. Recommend that a pre-season fall practice schedule be established for the 2012 cycle.
