April 27, 2005: Meeting Summary
Held April 27, 2005
1. Recommend that the NFHS Field Hockey rules regarding the use of face shields/masks by participants continue to be followed. (Approved)
2. Recommend that option No. 1 be accepted and option No. 2 be eliminated as a possible football playoff system due to the support for maintaining the jamborees/pre-season scrimmages, for not reducing the number of possible conditioning practice days, and for avoiding additional potential heat problems. (Approved)
3. Recommend that educational information be distributed to the schools regarding supplements and steroids as it becomes available, but that all information must be factual and backed with data and with opinions not being forwarded. (Approved)
4. Recommend, but not make mandatory, that an AED (automated external defibrillator) be on-site at all MSHSAA state championship events. (Approved)
5. Went on record in support of the MSHSAA and in opposition to House Bill 279 or any other similar type of legislation that may be proposed in the future by the Missouri House of Representatives or Senate due to over-use/over-training concerns. (Approved)
6. Went on record in support of exploring the possibility of ATCs attending annual sports rules meetings and presenting/leading discussions when there are significant rules changes involving safety. (Approved)
