Held February 26, 2008

        1.    Recommended the following state qualifying time changes for 2008-09:

Event

BOYS (yds)

GIRLS (yds)

500 Freestyle

5:11.49

5:40.99

        2.    Recommended that the following new policy be added to the Swimming Manual, “No performance that takes place after Saturday of Week 18 for Boys and Week 32 for Girls will be accepted for state qualification.”

        3.   Recommended the following deadlines for state online entry via Direct Athletics and the state entry fax packet:

Online Entry Window to open: 6:00 a.m. Thursday of Week 18 for Boys and Week 32 for Girls.

Online Entry Window to close and Fax Packet due at the MSHSAA office:  Noon, Sunday of Week 19 for Boys and Week 33 for Girls.

        4.   Recommended that the Performance Certification Sheet requirement be retained.

        5.   Recommended that the following policy be placed in the Swimming Manual to outline the terms for submitting performances to the Direct Athletics Online Performance Tracking System throughout the swimming and diving season, “Coaches will have ONE WEEK from the date of the meet to submit state qualifying performances to the Direct Athletics Online Performance Tracking System.  Submittals shall take place in an ongoing fashion throughout the swimming and diving season.  There will be a fine of $25.00 to have Direct Athletics accept a performance after this one week period closes.”

***    6.   Amended:  Recommended that the state meet heat sheet information be placed on the MSHSAA website in the swimming activity area (visible to public).

***    7.   Amended:  Recommended that the MSHSAA staff survey boys and girls swimming coaches regarding their interest in conducting a one-year trial to utilize current high school diving coaches as state diving judges (3 from St. Louis area, 2 from Kansas City area, 2 from the rest of the state, in addition to the diving referee and a “dual confirmation official”).  Advisory committee members would serve to identify interested/willing participants and would submit confirmed participants to MSHSAA, where the final judges from that area would be selected randomly from those willing to serve.

        8.   Recommended that an item be added to the Swimming Manual to replace item 7-d (showers required) on pages 11-12 and add “All changing of attire should take place in the lockerroom.”

        9.   Recommended that the MSHSAA Judging of Diving Clinic be discontinued.

***    10.  Amended:  Recommended that the MSHSAA staff survey boys and girls swimming coaches regarding their interest in extending the girls season by one week at the end and moving the state championship one week later (Friday/Saturday of Standardized Calendar Week 34).  There would be no change to the first allowable practice date for the sport of water polo.

Note 1: USA swimming events are not scheduled on a standardized date, but past event dates have not conflicted with the proposed date of Friday/Saturday of Standardized Calendar Week 34.  The USA Swimming Sectional Championship (a.k.a. Region VIII) is typically scheduled for Friday/Saturday of MSHSAA’s Standardized Calendar Week 35 or later.

Note 2:  The St. Peters Rec-Plex is currently unavailable on Friday/Saturday of Standardized Calendar Week 34 for the duration of the current contract period (through 2009-10).  The USA Swimming Local Swim Committee (LSC) Championship is being held at the facility on these dates.

*       11.  Recommended to reconvene the original ad hoc Committee on Non-School Competition to discuss how things have gone since their recommendations were made and the by-law change was approved by the membership.
