May 23, 2002 Meeting Summary

1. Recommend that penalties shall be called according to USGA Rule 34 in regards to claims and penalties. (Approved)

2. Recommend to play the ball using the following progression:

1st choice – Play the ball down

2nd choice – Lift, clean and place, in the same spot, in your own fairway

3rd choice – Lift, clean and place, in the same spot, through the green

4th choice – Play the ball using preferred lies according to USGA Rules. (Approved)

3. Recommend placing an item on the MSHSAA Annual Questionnaire to change the method for state golf qualification to take the top 15 individuals from each district. Any school qualifying three or more individual golfers would be in the team competition also. A school qualifying more than three individuals would count only the three best scores and throw out any additional scores in the team competition. (Denied)

4. Recommend to play the golf championships at the following courses for the next two years:    Class 1 Girls at Island Green in Republic,

Class 2 Girls at Rivercut in Springfield,

Class 1 Boys at Deer Lake in Springfield,

Class 2 Boys at Bill and Payne Stewart in Springfield,

Class 3 Boys at Silo Ridge in Bolivar and

Class 4 Boys at Rivercut in Springfield. (Approved)

5. Went on record encouraging coaches, administrators and officials to take an active role in the prevention of unsportsmanlike materials on internet message boards. (Approved)
