Prop. 23 To Begin With 2010-11 School Year
At the June 19, 2009 board meeting
the MSHSAA Board of Directors voted to postpone the implementation of Proposal
Number 23, which was passed by the membership on the 2009 Annual Ballot, until
the 2010-2011 school year. Proposal Number 23 deals with By-Law 326 regarding
contest limitations in Tennis.
The change in contest limitations is
needed to facilitate the new tennis championship format submitted by the Tennis
Advisory Committee and approved by the MSHSAA Board of Directors at its December
3, 2008 board meeting. The change in the individual and team district
tournament format is to be implemented at the start of the new classification
cycle scheduled for the 2010-11 school year.
The new limitations for tennis will
be 12 matches and 4 tournaments or 14 matches and 3 tournaments starting with
the 2010-2011 school year. Originally scheduled to begin with the 2009-10
school year, Prop 23 falls in the middle of the current classification cycle.
The Board felt the transition to the new limitations would be easier if it
coincided with the new classification cycle, beginning with the 2010-11 school
year.
The new Tennis playoff system and
scheduling limitations will be explained in detail at the 2009 tennis rules
meeting at the following locations:
