MSHSAA is again holding rules
interpretation meetings for cheer, dance and winter guard coaches. Each member school must have a representative
attend one of the sessions. These
meetings are being held to explain the 2009-2010 major spirit rules changes and
to highlight the various safety rules contained in the NFHS Spirit Rules Book.
Again, schools shall be responsible
for requiring its head cheer and dance team coach to attend sessions; however
it is strongly encouraged that all cheer, dance and winter guard coaches attend
as well. Starting time for all sessions
will be 7:30 p.m. (See rules meeting schedule in the cheer and
dance manuals and MSHSAA web site under meeting dates.)
Cheerleading coaches should have received their annual
mailing, including the 2009-2010 National Federation Spirit Rule Book, in early
August. Administrators and coaches
should be aware that the Spirit Rule Book contains a set of rules for cheer and
dance teams. It is expected that all
member schools shall follow these rules to ensure safety of all
participants. Should coaches or
administrators observe violations of the rules by other schools, please contact
the MSHSAA Office and advise us of the violations. As there are no officials for cheer or dance
to enforce the rules, it is vital that schools assist in this process. It is important that the rules are enforced
by all schools for the safety of all participants.
