Changes made by the membership to By-Law 323, Winter Sports Season, will take effect for the 2008-09 school year. The changes affect the first possible practice date on the Monday of Week 19 (November 10, 2008) and the first allowable contest date on the Monday of Week 21 (November 24, 2008) for high school basketball teams.
These changes will allow schools to continue to participate in traditional Thanksgiving tournaments as well as other regular season games during Week 21. The required number of practices has not changed for participating athletes, so schools that schedule games for the Monday of Week 21 will need to practice every day during Week 19 and Week 20 (including both Saturdays and Sundays) in order to meet the 14 day conditioning requirement.
For this basketball season (2007-08), the first-allowable practice date is Monday, October 29, and the first possible contest date is November 19.
