RESULTS OF THE 2009 SPECIAL
MSHSAA ELECTION
Following are the results of the
balloting on the amendment to the MSHSAA Constitution and By-Laws in the 2009
Special MSHSAA Election. Amendments to
By-Laws require a simple majority of those voting for passage, while amendments
to the Constitution require a 2/3 majority for passage. This proposal becomes effective immediately.
PROPOSAL
NO. 1 (PASSED) - 317 FOR, 6 AGAINST (2/3 vote required for passage)
This amendment allows for electronic
tabulation of the Annual Ballot when the ballots are distributed
electronically. The revised wording of Article VI, Section 1-a to the MSHSAA
Constitution appears below. This revision
allows the MSHSAA office the flexibility of either mail distribution of ballots
with hand tabulation or electronic submission of ballots with automated
tabulation. New Wording is in italics and is underlined.
ARTICLE VI, SECTION
1-a.:
a. The Constitution of this
Association may be amended by a two-thirds majority of schools voting and the
By-Laws by a majority of those voting provided the proposed amendment has been
submitted to the Executive Director and received at the MSHSAA office no later
than December 15 (see also Section 3 for procedures). The Executive
Director shall submit all proposed amendments to member schools no later than
the first Monday in April. Ballots shall
be distributed to all member schools, with each member school having one vote.
The school’s ballot to be official must be signed by the principal or
superintendent of the school when
paper ballots are sent via the mail or faxed.
The principal or superintendent’s official log-in will be captured when
the ballots are returned electronically. Ballots shall be received at the MSHSAA
office no later than May 1. The
Executive Director in the presence of at least one witness, shall tabulate the
votes when paper ballots are being
received. The results of the election shall be officially approved at
the next meeting of the Board of Directors and such changes as have been
adopted will be incorporated in the Constitution and By-Laws the following July
1 unless the effective date is specified in the amendments.

Total ballots received: Total Ballots Received - 340 ,
Void - 17 .
Of the voided ballots 2 were not signed by the principal or
superintendent, 15 did not mark a vote.
